With This Ring (part 2)…

I’d like to introduce you to my new ring. Dun…dun…dun…

Don’t worry, I didn’t trade in my engagement ring. Actually, my e-ring is currently at Butterfield Jewelers getting a wax mold made out of it, which is the first step in creating my wedding band.

I like to consider myself a creative person, but during the brainstorming processes with the Paul The Jeweler, my words spewed out like that of a small child. I was trying to be as coherent as possible, but I found myself needing to take deep breaths while trying to describe the plan I have for my ring.

Come to think of it, why is there so much hoopla put into finding a woman’s wedding gown? I mean, you wear it for what, around eight hours? But you’ll wear your ring forever. Did you catch that? FOREVER. Up until this point, I can’t think of any materialistic thing that’s stuck with me for the past 25 years. But this ring? This ring will be with me and on my finger till. I. die., which I hope is a lot longer than 25 years. End rant.

(Do you see why I needed to take several deep breaths during our meeting?) I took my computer with me to show Paul the inspirational photos I showed you a few weeks ago. Here are the two I’m the most drawn to:

And with those photos, Paul got to work scribbling and doodling away. Okay, I’m sure he understands exactly what he was drawing, but I have no idea how he’ll make sense of all of it.

The first step in this process was to leave my ring (tear) so he could make a wax mold of what I think I want. Then I’ll go back, check it out, and either make changes or give him the go-ahead to complete the design.

The way I’m having it made means that when I get my e-ring back it’s going to look really incomplete, and it will stay that way for the next 197ish days, because a few days before the wedding he will attach the wedding band to my e-ring and then, viola! It will look and be complete.

Granted, this is all based on my child-like explanations of what I think I want. Stay tuned to find out how it turns out, and till then, I’ll be sporting my new-but-not-so-real ring.

So how long do you need to give up your engagement ring? Just till he makes the first design or until you get married? Is your faux ring similar to your engagement ring?
