(My) Office Space (3)
I want to thank everyone for their kind words about yesterday’s post. Thankfully, yesterday was a lot better than Tuesday and no tears were shed. I’m so thankful you read my blog 🙂
Last November I posted about my home office. My husband and I painted the room a nice, warm shade of red—merlot, I believe it was called—and we got an awesome desk from Pottery Barn. My office was cosy, warm, and a perfect place to spend my days. I was in love with my office…until summer came along.
Here are some pictures to refresh your memory in case you don’t want to click the link above:
I’m still drooling over my desk and the furniture I have in there, but I’m having a hard time wanting to actually be in there all the time and I think it’s because of the color of the walls. When we painted it, the weather outside was crisp and cool, and it got dark fairly early. But now, it’s beyond hot and sunny until around 8 pm. My office feels more like a cave and I have no desire to be in there, because it makes me sleepy and not very productive. Instead, I’ve been working in my kitchen:
I’d hate to repaint the office, but I don’t know what else to do to not make it so dark. I already have several lights, but they don’t help much. Do you have any suggestions? If I were to repaint it, what color should I go with? Keep in mind that my desk and furniture are an espresso color and the trimming (baseboards, doors, etc.) are a light brown.
Maybe you could just try buying 2 or 3 really awesome, bright, colorful prints to put up instead of repainting. I love the look of your office! And maybe move your desk so you can look out the window.. and pull up those blinds! 🙂 I think it's probably the windows in the kitchen that make all the difference. Right?
I think the wall color is gorgeous and I <3 your furniture! Here are a few ideas I came up with- put a few brightly colored artwork pieces or photographs on the walls, paint the closet doors white (maybe too drastic?), add lighting, keep fresh flowers on/near your desk, decorate with some indoor plants. I love plants so I have to have them all over my house 🙂 Ivies do great indoors and are pretty low maintenance!
You have an adorable blog here!
Thanks so much for your stopping by my blog & following! It's great to have you!!

You could always paint it a light blue.
I was going to say a blue or green but I love other ideas of just brightening it up with prints & such. I love your kitchen by the way!
I absolutely love the color, but I'm like you, I don't know that I'd be able to work in there in the summer.
The right color blue or green would make it feel cooler. Or, even if you just painted 1 or 2 of the walls a tannish color of sorts.
We had a room like that: I loved the color, but it was too dark. We just painted it a lighter version of the same shade. I didn't have to change anything else in the room and I still have the same shade that I LOVE. If you really don't want to paint, you could try hanging light colored fabric on the walls during the summer. Then in the winter take that down and you're back to your favorite winter colors.
Hmmm, you can repaint it with cool colors like blue or green so your eyes would be refreshed upon seeing it. But if you don't want to repaint it, you can add windows to have a natural light.
