Pinch Me, Please

Anyone who knows me is probably aware that I have a slight obsession with The Pioneer Woman. I cook at least one of her recipes each week, if not more, and recently I’ve been entering her Photography Assignments to try to improve my photography. Never, in a million years, did I ever think one of my photos would be picked as a semi-finalist….but….

OH. EM. FREAKING. GEE! (Eloquent, I know, but seriously, I’m kinda at a lack for words right now). My picture was chosen! (Insert giddy dance here)

Her theme this week is “Love,” and there was one picture that immediately came to mind. It was a photo I took while I was home last month to be with my Tia before she passed away. Here’s the photo and the caption I put to go along with the picture, but by all means, go check it out on her site, too!

el amor de una familia (a family’s love)
My great aunt was literally on her death bed when the entire family flew in from around the country to be with her. I took several photos that day, and when the family started praying the Rosary I took a few more. It was during this time that this bright light completely embraced my Tia. She passed away blanketed in love.

I knew there would be a lot of photos from weddings, kids, and newborns, but to me, love is family. And what better way to show that than a picture of generations pouring out their love during a person’s last hours. Technically speaking, I’m sure this photo has tons of things wrong with it, but I don’t care—it captures a moment I will forever hold close to my heart.

I just had to share my excitement with everyone! Happy Tuesday, ya’ll šŸ™‚

  1. Its funny, I clicked on your name because your comment was just a few above mine and I like to explore new blogs. Out of all the photographs that were chosen yours stood out the most to me, then I pull up your blog and there is the photo that I loved! It evokes goosebumps and emotion. I just love the light around your great aunt. I'm so glad she picked your photo!

  2. Congratulations! You deserved to be chosen. Your photo is beautiful; it's one of those photos that conveys so much meaning that words aren't necessary.

  3. That is so moving! I definitely have goosebumps. That is exactly what love is… knowing in the however many generations you have lived through, you have touched so many that they come to your side.

    … and I'm crying.

  4. Congrats Jess! I love the picture. You're absolutely right – nothing say "love" more than that photo. I imagine it made the loss of your Tia just a teeny tiny bit easier knowing that your family left behind is so loving and supportive. I'm so glad PW featured it!

  5. I said it on The Pioneer Woman's site but I'll say it again…congratulations!!!! She's amazing and that picture is stunning and so incredible!
