Friday Eve (running a bit late)

EEk! Better late than never…here are my answers to Wife of a Sailor’s Friday Fill-in questions:

What characteristic about yourself has either been strengthened or weakened due to your experience as a Military Spouse? Interesting question. My initial response was that my independence has actually been weakened. I used to pride myself on being a strong and independent person, but I don’t really think I knew what that was until I got married and “joined” the silent ranks. But with that said, I also think my independence is being strengthened every day, just in a completely different way. Does that make any sense?

What is your favorite vacation spot and why? Home. Back in Albuquerque. That will forever be my favorite vacation spot and I promise I’ll talk more about it and show you guys photos of it when we go back over the holidays. Albuquerque has the perfect weather all year long, amazing food, gorgeous scenery, the best friends and family anyone can ask for, and the best blend of a small-town feel with a touch of big-city attitude. It’s grand.
If you could have any fast-food restaurant in the food court on base/post what would you pick? STARBUCKS! I’ve been telling my husband this constantly for the past several weeks. I think it would be such a great idea to have a coffee shop on base for people to get together and hang out.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We jetted off to the Bahamas and stayed at the wonderful Sandals all-inclusive resort. It was unbelievably fantastic and I’d love to go back there. If I ever finish writing about the wedding (my goal is to finish by our first anniversary) you’ll read about it. For now, here are a few photos (click here).

If you could have any job in the world regardless of money, degree or experience, which job would you have and why?
You know, I’m honestly perfectly content doing exactly what I’m doing right now. I’m writing when I like and what I like; I’m home when my husband comes home, and I’m still contributing financially—albeit not much. I’m fortunate my husband respects my line of work and realizes we won’t get rich from my writing. I’m thinking about writing a post about freelance writing in the near future where I’ll delve into my lifestyle a little bit more, so stay tuned.

  1. No coffee place at all? That's brutal! We have a Dunkin'…it's in the PX so it doesn't have a coffeeshop feel to it, but it's better than nothing I suppose šŸ™‚

  2. We have 2 Starbucks vendors on the base here. One is a free-standing building, and the other is in the food court (I think). There's a big A-School here (enlisteds living in barracks), so I guess they have to put some stuff on base for them to do so maybe they'll stay out of trouble.

I haven't had any desire to go there though, since it's 90 degrees for 10 months of the year and I don't even like coffee.

  3. What I remember most about Albuquerque is scorching heat in the summer and my wet hair freezing when I walked from my hotel room to the car in the winter… so I'm going to disagree with you about the perfect weather all year round. But that's coming from a So Cal girl. LOL šŸ˜‰ The food was awesome though, and I loved the nuclear weapons museum!

  4. One of our restaurants on base brews Starbucks coffee… that's the same thing, right?! Ha. Not so much.

I'm super excited for you that you'll be home for the holidays. I know how just the thought of realizing you'll be in your favorite place with your favorite people makes a heart happy. I think of you every time we go to the ABQ. We're actually headed there next weekend with some friends for the balloon fiesta. I'm excited!

I'm looking forward to reading about the freelance writing!
