Extended Five for Friday
Yesterday I got to celebrate something 27 years in the making. My absolutely amazing husband celebrated his birthday and, thanks to Veterans Day, we spent the entire day together.
Long story short, it was a fantastic day that started with him opening presents at home, followed with a delicious breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Then we trapsed around our small town and went shopping for Christmas decorations (side note: I feel like I’m at a complete loss for how to decorate for Christmas since we’re basically starting from scratch). Our lunch consisted of Wendy’s (his favorite), then we took a mid-day nap and went out for more shopping and running around. We ended the night by not taking advantage of one of the amazing deals for Veterans Day, but by ordering delivery from our favorite pizza place (Marco’s Pizza) and staying in.
I told him since it was “his day” he could watch anything he wanted—we always compromise and watch things both of us would like—so after about 15 minutes of looking at our wall of movies and TV shows he chose what I knew he’d pick all along: Star Trek. And I watched it with him. And I liked watching it with him, because he just looked so gosh darn happy. I love this man. My husband is absolutely amazing and I’m so lucky to have him in my life.
Wanna see what I got him? I’m pretty excited about this, because I was able to get him something that was not on his five-page Amazon wish list, but was something I knew he wanted and would never buy for himself.

I promise I didn’t even plan to have a picture of his shoe in the photo. How perfect is that, though?! |
I bought him some Converse boots he can wear with his ABUs. They sell them in our BX and every time he’d see them he would talk about how cool it’d be to wear Chucks to work every day. Well, seeing as how he’s on a flying crew and wears his flight-suit 99% of the time, he’d never really have a chance to wear them. But, wherever we go next he’ll have to wear his ABUs, which means now he’ll get to wear Chucks!
Oh, and I also got him StarCraft, because whenever we see it at the store he stops whatever we’re doing to gawk and stare at the box. Jokes really on him, though, because he doesn’t exactly have the time to play it right now.
I also got him one more thing…or rather, I made him something else:
If you’ve been following me for awhile, you’ll remember that last year I enlisted the help from a friend and made him his favorite pie for his birthday, but this time I decided to make it all by myself. It turned out better than I ever could’ve expected, and Kenny keeps raving about how delicious it is. I’ll post the recipe for it next week for those of you who are interested.
previous fridays
1. You woke up on Sunday and said it “felt like Christmas” for no real reason. It was adorable.
2. You are the hottest 27 year old I’ve ever seen. Ever.
3. You gave me the last small fry.
4. You said the pie I made was “BLEEPing delicious.”
5. We do disgustingly cute things that I absolutely love, but would probably make most people roll their eyes or throw up a little. And I absolutely love it. All of it.
p.s. I love you.
Sounds like a perfect birthday! I had no idea that Converse made boots – how cool!
Awww… you guys are awesome. It sounds like your husband had a wonderful birthday! And the pie looks divine. Yum!
