Holiday Home Tour: 2010
The night before Thanksgiving my husband got word that he would be deploying…within just a few days. To say that I was shocked was a complete understatement. I was devestated. There was hardly time to prepare emotionally, especially over a holiday and with family in town. Luckily, having my family here turned out to be a blessing, because my mom was able to change her flight to stay out here with me for several more days. (Huge kudos to Delta for graciously changing her ticket at no cost and waiving all the fees. You have no idea how grateful we are to the agent she spoke with.)
The fact that he left so suddenlyāand without noticeāwas hard to cope with. My mom was a genius, though, and figured out a way to distract me from his absence: we decorated my house for the holidays!
I wanted to keep things simple and very inexpensive. Did you know the dollar store has great decorations all for one buck?! We got a few other things from Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Michael’s, but everything was under $5 and I think I only spent around $30 total.
So, my dear husband, here’s a holiday home tour for you:
I heart Peanuts. The house looks lovely, and I'm sure your husband will appreciate how cozy you made the house look! š
Love the house, it is so pretty! I think he appreciates your ability to do this more than you could ever imagine. No matter how hard it is on you, it is always harder on him and the fact that he is leaving behind a strong woman who can keep the house a home is beyond amazing.
You can do it girl š
Having that quick, surprise deployment has always been a big fear for me. I need time to deal with and process things… I'm really sorry, Jessica.
Wish I could drop by with one of my "husband is gone and a woman needs chocolate" chocolate bars. I do it for all my friends because there's nothing else I can do except let them know I care and I'm thinking of them š
So glad your mom could stay a for a little extra time. Go Delta! And your house is beautiful and very warm looking!
As a former Delta employee (I was the person on the other end of the phone, waiving those change fees for pretty much any soldier that called because, even before I married my soldier, I had a ridiculous weak spot for the military and the sacrifices their families made!), I am glad to hear that they helped you out!
I am so sorry to hear he left again (and SO soon, it seems like just yesterday I was looking at your post about your last homecoming)!
And ps, a DOUBLE OVEN?!?!?!? AYKM?!?! I'm insanely jealous! Your house looks GREAT!
(((HUGS))) I didn't really decorate the house- I am in no mood to deal with the holidays all by myself. I'm so proud of you for being able to! It looks absolutely amazing.
Your house looks so cute!!
Hate to hear your hubs had to deploy so quickly. =( That REALLY stinks. (((HUGS))) I'm glad things worked out so your mom could stay. I bet that made a world of difference.
I am so very happy you decided to post this š I think the pictures look GREAT Jess!! And not to mention I bet Kenny is uber excited to see this!!!
I'm so sorry that your husband had to leave so quickly but your house looks absolutely beautiful. How long will he be gone?
I am so sorry, but your house looks so good š
I love your Peanuts set! I am sorry that you had to be left on such short notice. I had the same thing happen. Less than two weeks and we didn't know when he'd be home, so I completely know how hard that is. But it's great that you've been able to decorate and keep your spirits up. The time will hopefully fly by and you'll have him in your arms before you know it.
All under $5? Wow? Do you have a tree too or are you waiting till the hubby comes home?
super adorable! love holiday decorations!
So sorry that your husband had to deploy š You did a great job with the decorating! I'm sure he'll love the pics!
So sorry dear. Your home is just lovely. This is will be my 2nd Christmas away from my husband. Last year was our 1st as newlyweds, though for different reason's we are apart. Hoping our immigration will be finished up by the new year.
Your house is SO cute! I love it!
I'm so sorry you got the news at a time that's supposed to be so happy – Even though I'm sure it's not much easier regardless of when you get it. You are so strong and I have SO much respect for you! Praying he comes home quickly and safely!
I wanna drink out of my Penguin mug!!! You should send it to me.
That's crappy he had to leave so suddenly š
I like that you have two ovens… I think I may need to butter my husband up for something like that when we move back stateside next summer/fall.
FYI- the house looks great!
::HUGS::
I'm so sorry Jess, that must have (be) so hard. ((HUG)) Your house looks great!
Sorry that you had to suffer the surprise deployment – hopefully you're already counting down the days until he's home. I hope that's sooner rather than later. Love the decorations though, and I'm sure hubby will love seeing what you've done to your home!
It's BEAUTIFUL!!! I love all the decorations and that you got to do all of this with your Mom š I hope Kenny feels lots of holiday love from these pictures.
