Five For Friday: the book

*Edit (10/31/2014): This is one of my most popular posts, so hello if you’re popping over from Pinterest! I wanted to let you know that links below are affiliate links, so if you click on them and end up buying a book, I’ll get a teeny-tiny percentage (so thank you if you do!). Also, since this is so popular, I’ll add discounts for Blurb at the bottom—any little price break helps, right?!

Two months ago today, my husband and I celebrated our first anniversary, and I just realized that I completely forgot to show you the gift I created for my better half. I have several of those I-completely-forgot-to-show-you posts coming up, by the way. One of these days I’ll be caught up…

A few weeks before our anniversary I was scrambling to figure out what to get him, but my ideas kept coming up short. I wanted the gift to fit the traditional paper theme, but kept drawing blanks since getting him a book was out of the question—he already has four book shelves full of novels and a stack waiting to be read that’s about as tall as I am. Then, one Friday, it clicked and I knew exactly what I would give him for our anniversary.

As I’m sure many of you know, every Friday I write a “Five for Friday” post with things pertaining to my husband. I fell in love with the idea when I saw Ali writing hers, so started mine a few weeks after we got married. They’re one of the least-commented-on posts, but I don’t write them for you or even for me; I write them for my husband. Compiling a “Five for Friday” book seemed like the perfect idea for an anniversary gift!

I created the book using Blurb, a company I’ve used several times before and highly recommend, and as always, I’m extremely happy with the quality of the actual book and the color on each page. I love how easy their software makes it to create books! I took these minutes before we left the house for Arizona, so caring about composition and placement of the book were far from my mind.

The book is 76 pages long, but I was running so short on time these were just a few from the beginning!

  1. VERY awesome! What a great idea to have forever. Ialways thinkabout making books out of certain posts… I lovethis idea for him. I'm sure he loved it!

  2. I'm not gonna lie, I read ALL of your posts except your Five for Fridays! (I'm not a mushy person, I guess.) But this is a FAB idea and it came out wonderfully. Even without the blog element, a photo book with some loving words is a great anniversary gift.

  3. I am one of those people that doesn't comment on everything, but reads everything and this post absolutely gave me chills. I love the idea–so so creative and romantic, and just exactly what a first anniversary gift should be! Kudos, Jess!

    PS- I MISS YOU!!!

  5. Your five for Friday posts may be the least commented on but trust me, we read. 😉

  6. Hi Jess! I am a reader of your blog but dont comment. I HAD to comment tonight. What a fantastic gift idea! I am highly impressed with your talent, creativity and passion for life! Bless you and your hubby on your first anniversary.
My hubby and I married on 9-5-09. It's been a rough 19 months with unemployment for both of us a different time but there is no one I would rather go through it with! He is my heart outside my body. We married later in life (I am 38 and he is 44). I wish I had a way to show my love for him as you did with your gift.
    Congratulations!!!
