Thankful for Pie

This time last year I was a mess. My favorite holiday quickly turned into a nightmare, because hours before we popped the turkey in the oven we found out my husband would deploy two days after Thanksgiving for an undetermined amount of time. We had 72 hours during a holiday to prepare for his leave. I didn’t even attempt to hold back the tears. Needless to say, I wasn’t a very happy camper, and at the moment I couldn’t think of much to be thankful for.

Today, however, I’m very much aware of how precious time is and I’m grateful for so many things. The list is long and full of the usual suspects, but right now, I’m extremely thankful my husband has been home for almost an entire year, and I’m soaking up our time together since he’ll be away for the holidays next year. I’m also thankful that we have friends coming over in a couple hours to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. And last, but not least, I’m thankful for this pie. Yes, I’m extremely grateful to eat this pie in a few hours.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends!
