Together at Last: Dancing the Night Away

This post is part of my wedding recap series. With only one post left it looks like I will finish this by our next anniversary! Missed something and want to catch up? Click here for links to past “Together at Last” posts.

Even though we danced before the “official” first dance, I absolutely loved sharing the dance floor, almost-all alone, with my new husband.

Our first dance was to the sweet melodies of Norah Jones’s “Come Away With Me.” We love Norah Jones and that song came up frequently while we dated. One thing we weren’t prepared for, though, was just how long a three-minute song actually is when you have close to a hundred pairs of eyes staring at you. The song lasts FOR-EV-ER!

Luckily, we had some special guests help us out on the dance floor at the very end of the song. It was adorable. They saw us dancing and wanted to join in. We happily obliged.

After our turn was over, it was time for the father/daughter and mother/son dance. We actually combined the two dances, and I’m glad we did. Seriously, being up there all alone is just awkward, especially while you just sway back and forth! I loved being able to get a slow dance in with my Papa.

Once the customary dances were out of the way we moved swiftly along to the fun parts: the tosses!

All of the single ladies made their way to the dance floor and I took the position to toss one lucky gal my “toss” bouquet!

My friend Meghan grabbed the bouquet and held onto it tight!

After my toss, my lovely husband got to toss the garter, but he had to get it off my leg first!

Once he had the garter he didn’t waste any time tossing it to his men. Seriously. My brother started counting to three and he threw it on “one” or “two.” Silly man!

The best part about the garter toss was who won it. If you thought it would be any one of the over-six-foot tall guys standing there, you’d be completely wrong. It was my second-cousin, ringing in at just around three-feet tall. Classic! They had a dance all to themselves, but he didn’t really know what to do. I’m sure if he sees this photo in ten years he’ll kick himself for not dancing with the hot chick next to him 🙂

Once the tosses were over with it was time to dance!

Even though the photographer left shortly after we started dancing, the party didn’t stop there. My husband had to (almost literally) drag me off the dance floor! I would get so tired and say I wanted to go to bed and then another great song would come on so I’d be right back there on the dance floor getting my groove on. I have no idea what time the party actually ended, but I do know that I had an absolute wonderful time!

up next: The LAST post in this series…finally!

  1. Ahhh wedding memories 🙂 I remember our first dance lasting forever too…luckily our flower girl came over and started dancing with us about a minute or two in so that helped.
Thanks for sharing all of these beautiful pictures and memories!

  2. We also combined the mother/son & father/daughter dance, and I am glad we did! You didn't say what song y'all danced to for that though 😛
