Bumpdate: 14 weeks
This week went by really fast. Actually, August went by really fast—how will tomorrow be September? I keep having an internal battle between wanting these next several months to fly by (so my husband can hurry up and come home) and needing time to slow down (because…um…life-changing BABY!).
I’ve been feeling so much better this week. Looking back on my first trimester makes me want to cry for just how miserable I constantly felt. But let’s not think about that right now. Instead, let me tell you how I’ve been cooking and baking again AND I started cleaning the house—these are huge accomplishments these days!
How far along: 14 weeks today!
Fun facts: Baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck its thumb!
How big is the baby: the size of a lemon! My husband and I both agree that we’re guessing it’s the size of an American lemon and not the ginormous lemons found in Italy. Because that would just be freaky.
Total weight gain: -1 (still down a pound, but I’m starting to eat a lot more, so I’m curious if that will go up soon.)
Sleep: I think I’m finally sleeping a little better. I bought a body pillow and I slept five hours straight, which was a welcome break from my restless sleeps lately.
Best moment of the week: I made an unexpected trip to the doctor this week (I’m fine and the baby’s fine), but while I was there the midwife did a VERY fast ultrasound to see the heartbeat again. I’m too early for the sound to be picked up on dopplar, so she just wanted to see it flickering instead (since it wasn’t a scheduled appointment). The baby was moving around a lot (yay!) and from what I remember her saying, this is a full-frontal shot, which is why it looks like there’s an alien head. It was really cute to see the little arms moving around (the two white dots near the bottom)—it was like Pickles was waving!
Food Cravings: Can I just say thank goodness I don’t have American commercials to watch? I was watching a TV show and they had spaghetti, so I had to have spaghetti that.very.moment. I paused the show and 10 minutes later I finished watching it with a bowl of spaghetti. I was also 30 seconds away from eating jalapenos straight from the jar. Instead I made nachos and had a jalapeno with each bite—here’s hoping my spicy cravings keep up…I need this baby to like chile just as much as its parents do! Oh, and my mom sent me an article from home about breakfast burritos—I didn’t even finish reading the story, because I had to go make myself a burrito!
Food aversions: Rotisserie chicken is (still) possibly the
worst smell out there. I thought I was over my onion aversion, but I picked up some green onions yesterday and almost had to throw them out of my car on the way home. Yuck.
Movement: Sometimes I think I maybe feel the flutters or bubbles, but I have no idea if it’s Pickles or just gas.
Gender: Won’t find out for a several more weeks…Apparently here it’s between 21 and 24 weeks?
What I’m looking forward to: My next appointment at the end of September and going on a cruise in two weeks with my parents 🙂
What I really miss: This week I didn’t miss much of anything! It was a good week.
Most worried about: Where I’m giving birth (on base or in an Italian hospital?), me not being early and my husband not coming home late, our move shortly after the birth, if I can go home for Christmas or not….the list goes on and on. I need to let go of my worries and trust God on this one.
Most excited about: officially being in the second trimester and feeling good again 🙂
YAYYY love your bump update pic 🙂 and YAYYYY for golden trimester.
Yay this is such a cute update.
That's a lot of jalapenos!! Haha
I love your update with the picture and all the facts, such a cute thing!!
Also we bought the Sonoline B Fetal Doppler and OMG it was awesome it could pick up the heartbeat at 11 weeks!! We used that thing all the time, and it was great because we could listen in on baby any time we wanted and put this momma at ease when I wasn't feeling movement yet!!! It was very worth every penny I spent on it (around $60 so it was cheap!)
You look great honey! Those first flutters are the best, even if you don't know that's what it is yet!
Yay! The first trimester SUCKED but after that it got so much better.
Congratulations! The best time is between 22-23 weeks, I did Emma at 18 Weeks and it was far too early and we did Ellie at 24 weeks and it was far too long and things were starting to get to squished in there.
I gave birth at both while in Italy and Jess either way it will be fine as each has their pro's and con's. If you have questions about it feel free to shoot me an email. Best of luck lady!
Yay for feeling better! The first trimester is definitely the worst. I had a similar situation with cravings – if I saw it, I WANTED it.
Also, I've never heard that you can be "too early" to get a heartbeat on a doppler. I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks and they picked it up. But I guess it could be different in different places? Who knows.
Oh, and I'm gonna guess you're having a girl! =)
SO GLAD that the 2nd trimester is going so well for you! Anddddd now I want spaghetti and nachos. Not preg… just hungry. LOL
I love what you did with the photo! ANy ideas where you might go next?!?
