Bumpdate: 27 Weeks

So I unknowingly picked up an unwelcome souvenir last week in Salzburg. I’ve had a cold that’s lingering and making itself nice and comfy in my body despite my many failed attempts to get it to vacate. Well, it’s getting down to the wire now, because I’m leaving for America in just a few days and I really don’t want to be sick for my 20+ hour trip back home. LEAVE ME ALONE, COLD!!! UGH!

On the bright side, my little girl must like the coughing symphony she’s hearing, because she’s been really active all week! Either that or the ridiculous hacking is interrupting her sleep and she’s trying to tell me to be quiet. I’m going with the first option so I don’t feel so bad.

Apparently 27 weeks means I’m now in my 3rd trimester (depending on which book/site you read). This pregnancy is just flying by. I’m incredibly excited for January to get here so my husband can feel little Pickles move around! So many things to look forward to 🙂

How far along: 27 weeks (+ 1 day)

Fun facts: She can open and close her eyes and even suck her fingers. Her lungs are also going through major developments and she’s practicing inhaling and exhaling.

How big is the baby: She weighs almost two pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14.5 inches long—wowzers!

Sleep: I don’t even feel like answering this. Between having a cold and feeling her kick me, I’m wasn’t sleeping much at night during the week, and I have dark bags under my watery eyes to prove it. Last night I did sleep a lot and felt great! So great that I thought I’d feel better when I woke up. I didn’t. Maybe tonight will be good, too?

Best moment of the week: Still feeling her move. It’s amazing every single time I feel her. Oh! I also passed my glucose test—hooray!!

Food Cravings: Food has been lower on my list this week. I’m trying to eat extra healthy, though, since I know she’s stealing all of my nutrients right now. This morning I made Natalie’s Magic Oatmeal and I’m kicking myself for not making it sooner in this pregnancy. It’s like a protein-packed pregnancy comfort food.

Movement: Sometimes it feels like she has ten limbs and is kicking and poking me all over. She’s still really low, though, and just loves rolling over my bladder.

Gender: GIRL!

What I really miss: Feeling healthy. When you’re sick it feels like you’ll be sick forever. I really don’t like taking medicine, even though the doctor said what he gave me is safe, I just don’t like it. Pickles is still growing and I’d rather not take anything but my prenatals. BUT if I don’t take it then I can’t function. Grrrr.

Most worried about:
My flight home this week. I wasn’t worried about it before I got this cold, but now I am. If I’m still sick I may just take a Benadryl (on my approved meds list) and sleep through it, but then that would mean I can’t get up and walk around as often as I need to. Stupid cold.

I’m looking forward to: Being home next week. I was going to tough it out here over the holidays, but I’m really glad I decided to go home for a few weeks.

Anything else? Have you heard that pregnant women sometimes pee when they sneeze or cough? Yeah…that’s totally true. More on that later.

  1. Yay, so glad you get to go home and visit!!!
When I flew in my 3rd tri back to Nebraska (25+ hour trip) I was sick as well. Seriously don't be afraid of the benadryl, I tried NOT taking it and I could barely breathe the pressure was so bad! Good luck, and praying for safe travels for you =)

  2. Yay for going home! Hope you get over your cold soon, maybe some honey water with lemon will help with your cough and hopefully make you feel better.
