The Most Extreme Event EVER + Giveaway
Did you know that back in the day I participated in two half marathons? Yup, and much to my husband’s dismay (because he’s driving my car now) I even have a pink 13.1 sticker stuck to the back of my car. It took a heck of a lot of training and a whole lot of endurance, but I did it. Passing those finish lines was so incredibly empowering and rewarding that I’m glad I pushed myself for that accomplishment. Running/walking those 13 (point one) miles (or 26.2 if we’re being technical) is something I can be proud of.
These days, I honestly can’t imagine pushing my body to that extreme. After I went through labor I actually compared it to running a marathon—it was that intense! Lack of sleep and having a baby who eats every three hours and only takes 30-45 minute naps leaves me zero time to take a shower, let alone work out. But, oh how I long to be back at that fitness level. There are so many cool racing events out there these days that I really want to start working out again.
Speaking of being in shape, have you heard of the Reebox Spartan Race? Basically, the Spartan Race’s mission is “to get you active, healthy, excited about change, and return to our
ancient roots where running through woods, getting dirty, and facing
adversity was part of everyday life. Our events are all about
challenging today’s perception of normal.” In other words: it’s an extreme race.
They have four different levels that will test your strength, stamina, and (so they say) your sense of humor: beginners start with the Spartan Sprint, intermediates race the Super Spartan, advanced gets the Spartan Beast, and if you’re seriously crazy extreme, there’s the aptly named “Death Race.”

So why in the world am I telling you about such an extreme race? First of all, I think it’s awesome and if I wasn’t scared of dropping dead or crying at the first sight of something I couldn’t do (jumping through fire, pulling myself up on a rope, or crawling under barbed wire for example), I would totally do it. And second: they’re offering one of my readers a FREE RACE ENTRY.
You guys, that’s huge! There are races all around the country, which means there’s probably one near you. So, I’m giving one of you a free race code that’s good for any open heat in any 2013-2014 Spartan Race in the continental US. Awesome, right? You can use the code or you can surprise your significant other with the free race. Want to give it to your brother-in-law or friend who’s had their eye on participating? No problem, the code is all yours!
And, because I’ve always wanted to say this: wait! There’s more! Click on this link and score 15% off any Spartan Race. Not only that, but the Spartan Race teamed up with GovX and it’s now one of the largest race registration discounts programs for military service members and government first responders. They’re offering 30 bucks off all U.S. race registrations to verified active, reserve, and veteran U.S. military members, along with active first responders. Get a group together and get ready to race to the finish line!
Have you done any non-traditional races? Tell me about them below!
Got my eyes set on Fenway Park.
I started doing Spartan races three years ago now and have moved up their levels and I have to say they are the BEST races. Nothing I do now compares to them… and you get seriously addicted. And they have the best racers around I love how everyone helps each other out. If you haven’t you have to try them.
Go you! That's so awesome. I can't wait to get back to working out after baby #2 arrives.
I have a friend that just ran 3 Spartan races this year with her husband! Now I want to do one!
