Five Things…And Then Some

Happy, happy Friday! Well, hopefully it’s a happy day for you. I feel like I may be coming down with something, which is not good timing at all. I’m crossing my fingers it doesn’t get worse and that the rest of the family stays healthy. I’m hydrating and trying to rest like crazy. That means Julia’s watching a lot more TV lately and I’m getting my own share of screen time. I had mom guilt for a little while, but then realized that I need to just chill and take care of myself for the next few weeks. A little extra Curious George and Frozen isn’t going to destroy her.

Today I’m jumping on the “five” themed post that bloggers do on Fridays. I like reading them, so I figured, why not?!

One

I’m really excited about this first bit of news…my due date is three weeks away, which a) means I’m full term as of tomorrow, b) is ridiculous—where did the time go?, and c) means I’m reading birth stories like it’s my job. Actually, that’s not the news, but this is:

I’m going to host a Birth Story Link-up right here on February 6! I know many of you have birth stories on your blog already, and I’d love to read them. Birth stories are so empowering and amazing; whether you had your baby naturally, with medication, vaginally, a c-section, or even adoption, I just LOVE reading about how your little one came into the world.

While I have absolutely no idea when this baby will make her appearance, I do know that if it’s after my due date (like last time), I won’t mind reading more birth stories! I’m going to have everything hopefully ready to go, so if she gets here early, the link-up will still go live. So, if you have one on your blog, please come link it up. If you’ve been meaning to write yours, here’s your chance!

Two

I need some new Grey’s and Scandal back in my life STAT. I mean, really, when will my Thursday shows be back on TV? That’s a rhetorical question—the answer is January 29, which is too far away. I’m having some serious TGIT withdrawal over here. In case you’re also missing your favorite shows, you should probably check these videos out: Scandal (and How to Get Away with Murder*) and Grey’s Anatomy. *Am I the only one out there who didn’t get into HTGAWM? It just never did it for me.

Oh, and in other TV news…any other White Collar fans out there? I’m still sad it’s over. Like, really, really sad. On a brighter note, they’re all on Netflix (except for the latest season), so I can still get my Matt Bomer fix there.

Three

Remember my goal to read 10 books this year? Well I’m already at 3.5 and I’m halfway through another one! (The half book was actually a super short book, so I don’t even know if I want to count it as a full book.) I’m reading a lot right now mostly because it’s relaxing, but my hope is that I can keep up with this trend once the baby’s here. I think it’ll be a good way to keep me relaxed. It helps that 2.5 of those books were part of a trilogy (the third comes out in May and I’m anxiously awaiting its release).

What I’ve read:
Up at Butternut Lake by Mary McNear (less than $5 right now for the Kindle!)
Butternut Summer by Mary McNear (hey-oh! Less than $4 for the Kindle)
Butternut Lake: The Night Before Christmas (only like 100 pages, and only $2.99) by Mary McNear
First Love by James Patterson

What I’m currently reading:
Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin

What’s up next:
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doeer

Four

Can we talk about coconut water? I tried it for the first time when I was in Italy (there was only one brand at the commissary there), and I really tried to like it…but even the flavored kind tasted like dirty water. But! I know how good it can be, so I’ve been trying different brands, trying to find one that I like. With the exception of some decaf coffee every few mornings, I exclusively drink water, but sometimes I need a tad bit more oomph to my day, and coconut water gives me that extra boost.

I raided the coconut water section at Kroger last night, and these are the ones I’m going to try—it turns out I like it with a splash of pineapple, just not the brand I had before (Vita Coco, for the record). I need to look at the purity and the nutritional values of all of these
to see if that can help me narrow down which one I like. And the taste, of course. (I’ve actually tried the two on the left and I like them! I need to try the other two and then compare them all.)

Do you like coconut water? Are any of these your favorites?

Five

I used to do a Five for Friday post for my husband every single Friday back during my first and second year of marriage. It’s been a very long time since I’ve written one, so here’s a spontaneous Five for Friday:

  1. You draw me the most wonderful bubble bath almost every single night (except for tonight…ironic). It’s one of the best parts of my day.
  2. Actually, the best part of my day is when you put Julia down for bed. Not because she’s finally out of our hair, but because I absolutely love listening to the two of you together. Her giggles sound more lively, and hearing and seeing you guys cuddle, hug, and give “kisses” makes me melt.
  3. You’re getting even better looking with age šŸ™‚
  4. There are probably a million things I want to thank you for (taking Julia to the potty all the time when we’re together/out in public, for doing the laundry, for crossing everything off our to-do list, for picking stuff up off the floor, etc.), but I am really, truly grateful for all that you do for our family.
  5. I still think we should compromise and go with the names we both like the most, which coincidentally happen to be the names we both like the least!

Five.Five (“and then some”)

This is my 1,500th published post on here šŸ™‚

Linking up with September Farm and The Farmer’s Wife (Oh, Hey Friday); A Little Bit of Everything, Momfessionals, and Grace and Love (Friday Favorites); and A. Liz Adventrues, Carolina Charm, Hello! Happiness, and The Good Life (Five on Friday). Whew!

  1. I never got into HTGAWM either. I watched 2 episodes and wasn't impressed. I'm also super bummed about White Collar. šŸ™

My sitter gave my daughter some coconut water and I tried it, nearly barfed. Sorry! It's not my thing.

  2. Oh man — that Thursday line-up! I LOVE HTGAWM, but I also love suspense/twist stuff like that, anyways! I've had some of the Butternut books on my "to-read" list for awhile … Guess I'm just going to have to pick them up and read them now!

  3. Try Harmless Harvest Coconut Water. It's pricey, so I rarely drink it, but it's the absolute best coconut water I've ever had.
