Baby #3: an almost 40-Week Bumpdate

No, you haven’t missed anything…this is my first (and very likely last) bumpdate for baby #3. I’ve slacked this time around, big time. Don’t worry, I feel tons of mom guilt for going all out for our first and second kid, and then leaving this one high and dry. To make up for that, I hired a birth photographer for the first time, so he can see all the gnarly details of his actual birth day. Because, let’s just be honest here: the chances of me making a baby album of his first year are slim to none, so at least if I have the day he comes into the world, maybe I’ll feel a tad bit less guilty later.

So in the spirit of doing bumpdates for each child of mine, I figured I could at least do one for him! Here’s my almost-40-week update on the bump.

How far along? 39 weeks and 5 days

How big is the baby? One app says the size of a watermelon and another says the size of a pumpkin. Seeing as how I’m measuring 48 weeks (not a typo; apparently I have some a lot of amniotic fluid during my last appointment) I’m going with watermelon. I’m officially carrying a freaking watermelon…again. #imakebigbabiesicannotlie

Total weight gain/loss: I’m up 31 pounds, which is actually less than I was with the other kids at this point. But only by a few pounds.

Maternity clothes? Absolutely, even though the panel pretty much shows no matter what I wear on top. Lula Roe Irma tops are long enough to cover it most of the time, but they get hot; mama needs some sleeveless tops.

Sleep: Sleep has been fabulous this pregnancy. Even though I still toss and turn and get up to pee a few times every night, I sleep pretty sound…or at least I feel like I do. Insomnia hasn’t been too much of an issue.

Best moment this week: Going on our nightly walks. I always start tearing up when I think about how it’s probably the last time we’ll do it as a family of four. We also bought some stuff off our registry. There isn’t much we needed, but there were a few things here and there, so it was nice to buy them. His room isn’t ready, so a few other details can wait, but at least he’ll have some towels and a baby bath now šŸ™‚

Food Cravings: Nothing really. I craved a coffee milkshake and totally indulged in one yesterday. My cravings have been fairly tame this pregnancy. Well…kinda. I’m REALLY craving beer, Popeye’s spicy chicken, and some good spicy tuna sushi.

Food Aversions: nothing

Gender: BOY!

Labor signs: I was 3 cm as of Monday (39+1), and totally effaced. I have contractions here and there (before I typed this they were every 10 minutes, but have since slowed down). I need to bounce on the ball more. Last time around at this point I was 4 cm and 80% effaced. This baby thing is so crazy!!

Pregnancy Symptoms: I don’t even know how to answer this. I’m 9 months pregnant…everything is a symptom.

Belly button—in or out? in. always in.

What I miss: Oh my. Besides the obvious (sleeping on my back and stomach), I really miss bending, beer, and not hurting/aching at the end of the day. Then again, here’s what I’ll miss about being pregnant.

What I’m looking forward to: labor! I’m really hoping things will start naturally so we can get this party started. I want to meet this little man already! Also, my mom flies in tonight, and I”m looking forward to her being here šŸ™‚

Upcoming appointment/events: I technically have an induction scheduled for Monday morning (40+1), but I’m 95% sure I’m going to cancel it or at the very least push it a few days. I want to go into labor naturally again, and I think my body is almost there…I just need to trust it.

Milestones: I’ve made it this far!
