First Things First: The Basics

What were your first impressions after moving to Fort Sill?

Small town, country charm?

How did you feel at the the end of the tour? Did your impressions change?

I really liked by the end of our time there! We found little things to do for the kids and lots of outdoor activities!

What is ONE THING you wish you had known before moving to Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma?

If you buy the annual museum pass in Lawton, you can use it at the big Science museum in OKC (1.5 hrs away!)

Don’t be afraid to drive around to explore new cites/ towns! Like Wichita Falls, Texas 30 minutes away! Such a cute downtown with lots of local shops.

Good (Local) Eats

If someone came to visit you, and you had to take them out to eat, what would your TOP THREE favorite places be?

The Silver Spoon, Ted’s Cafe Escondido (for Mexican food), and Meers Store and Restaurant (get the peach cobbler)!

Favorite place(s) for coffee and/or dessert?

Viridian Coffee
Young’s Donuts!

Is there a farmer’s market scene in there? Tell us about it!

There’s one in Wichita Falls that we loved!

How about a fun night out on the town for a date night?

My husband liked the cigar lounge.

Get Around (and out of) Town

Top five favorite things to do in Lawton, Oklahoma:

Museum of Great Plains, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, hike Mount Scott, check out the Holy City, and Medicine Park

Picture this: You have a whole weekend to go somewhere within driving distance: Where are you going and what are you doing?

Wichita Falls, OKC , or Dallas are ll within 3 hours!

We loved going to OKC for the zoo and Traders Joe’s. Dallas for shopping and really good eats!

What was your favorite park in town?

Kid Zone at Greer Park (aka the Wooden Park) or Elmer Thomas

Any museums worth checking out?

Museum of Great Plains! We went all the time; it’s great for littles

Tell us about the weather.

Average wind speed over 10mph. Approximately 20/30x year you’ll see winds sustain at 30+mph. March 1st- July is hail season. Summer will have 20-30 days over 100.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about Fort Sill/Lawton, OK, for someone who is moving there soon?

My husband wants me to mention that there’s really great hunting & fishing!
